We just got home from our second stay at Tropical Palms, Kissimmee, FL. It was even more amazing than the first stay and my husband and I agreed, overall, it is our favorite Thousand Trails Campground to date.

Tropical Palms is a beautiful park with tons of amenities for the entire family. The pool was definitely a highlight and we loved having a cabin just a few steps from the pool. Our last visit was late August, and most days the pool was pretty empty. While it was nice to have the pool to ourselves, my kids like playing with others, and this trip provided an unlimited supply of friends at the pool. We were fortunate enough to be around on the day they had a DJ at the pool. He played great music, was not too loud (yes, I am THAT old), and he hosted a variety of games for the kids including a hula hoop contest, limbo, and a scavenger hunt. My kids loved it and they even got the adults involved for some of the games. They allow floats and toys in this pool, so be sure to bring your noodles, water balls, etc. I have linked a few of our favorites in our Amazon Store. Only one of the days (the day before Easter) was it too crowded to comfortably toss a ball around or use the dive toys. The pool deck has many heavy-duty loungers, as well as tables with chairs and umbrellas.

The kiddie pool is adjacent to the big pool, but in a separately gated area. It has a water feature in the center and is the perfect spot to let your littles splash and play. It is big, shallow, and kept very clean. There is plenty of seating, including tables with umbrellas, around the kiddie pool. The playground is adjacent to the kiddie pool, but in another gated area. It’s a newer jungle gym and the area is very well maintained. It is in the sun, so you may want to avoid it during peak sun/heat.

The laundry room and bathhouse are between the playground and the pool. There are plenty of washers and dryers, and they take credit cards. The laundry area is clean, bright and it’s proximity to the pool/playground allow your kids to be entertained while you take care of the laundry. The bathhouse is clean and modern. While our cabin had a full bathroom, for some reason the shower head is mounted unusually low. My husband is 6’5” and since the bathhouse was so close by and so nice, he opted to pop over there for showers several times during our stay. You just need your key card (the same one you use for the security gate and the front door of your cabin) to access these areas.

This is a great campground for kids to ride their bikes and scooters. The roads are nicely paved and I never saw anyone driving fast on any of the roads. My kids are 3 and 6, so they also enjoyed riding their scooters on the paths through the cabin area. It was the perfect setting for our little ones to experience a bit a freedom, while we were able to keep an eye on them.

The main building, where you check in, houses a fitness center, a store and a library. This is also where you can check out sports equipment. These items are included with your stay, you just need to leave a photo ID in exchange for the equipment. The store is small and they did not seem to be stocking many items while we were there. That was not an issue, as there are so many stores in the immediate area. Walmart, CVS, Publix, Target, ALDI and countless restaurants and gift shops can be found within minutes of the campground. The library features games, puzzles, books and movies. We did not take advantage of this amenity, but I believe it works similarly to checking out sports equipment. Just behind the main building is a volleyball and a basketball court. Balls for these can be checked out in the main building.

We saw fewer golf carts at this campground than we typically see at other Thousand Trails properties. The recreational activities are all very centrally located and the park is very flat, so I noticed even those who had golf carts at their site usually opted to walk instead. While the size and accessibility of this campground certainly does not make a golf cart a necessity, I did notice a few people taking theirs down to Old Towne, which seemed like fun! You can rent carts from Tropical Palms. As of April 2023, their rate is $63.13 per day.

The mini golf course is just down the street from the pool. It is relatively well maintained and pretty standard for campground mini golf. A couple of holes had some more exciting features, like bridges and tunnels. For free mini golf, I would say this is perfect, and we played twice during our stay. Clubs and balls can be picked up in the main building. You just need to leave your drivers license in exchange for the equipment.

Bocce and Shuffleboard courts are in the same general area as the mini golf and appeared to be well maintained. We did not make it over to the kitchen/veranda area, but I understand they have corn hole and hold some of the recreational activities there. We will have to check it out during our next stay.

Perhaps one of the greatest advantages of this park is the cabins themselves. We have never had an issue booking at this property, whereas, we have recently found that some of the parks in the northeast are extremely difficult to get into, especially on weekends. We have stayed in Cabins 16 and 43, so far, and both were updated, clean and come with all towels and linens. The kitchens are fully stocked with dishes, a full size oven and refrigerator, microwave, and even a small dishwasher. Housekeeping is extremely accommodating and will gladly switch out towels throughout the week. Simply text the front desk, place soiled towels on your porch, and they are usually switched out within minutes. Not having to pack towels and linens is a huge plus for us. Make sure to pack pool towels though, as they are not provided.

If you are considering the The Thousand Trails Cabin Pass and are looking to visit central Florida and/or the Orlando theme parks, this is the best spot for an affordable family vacation. We plan to return at least two more times this year.
