Legoland NY Sleepover Series- Ninjago

Last weekend we visited Legoland Hotel in Goshen, NY for their Sleepover Series. The Sleepover Series takes place in January, February and March, while the park is closed for the season. My soon-to-be 6 year old has been Lego obsessed for a few months now and wanted to experience the Ninjago themed weekends, but opted for a Pirate Themed room. (There are Kingdom Themed sleepovers in February and Pirate Themed in March.) The Legoland cancellation policy is extremely strict, even if you opt for trip insurance through them, so I waited until the morning we wanted to go before booking. While the event was full, I cannot imagine the hotel was anywhere near capacity. I booked through the passholders link on the website, and we got a small discount on the room, which included all activities and breakfast the morning of checkout. Upon checkout we were prompted to schedule a reservation for breakfast, which I did. Check-in was listed as 4pm, but when I booked it said I could arrive at 1pm. We received our room ready text before we even left the house around 11am. Upon arrival, we were directed by very friendly staff to the self-serve kiosks that print your room keys. From there, we proceeded toward the elevators, where we were greeted by another friendly staff member who explained the activities and events that would be available to us, gave both of my sons ninja headbands and scorecards for the ninja challenge, as well as a scavenger hunt card.

We took the Disco Elevator to our room on the 4th floor. When you enter the elevator, you need to scan your room key to access your floor. As soon as the doors close, disco music starts and a disco ball illuminates on the ceiling. Every elevator ride was a dance party! The 4th floor is dedicated to pirate rooms, so the halls, carpet and decor all match the theme. We opted for the premium room, and I am so glad we did. With our pass holder discount it was $27 more than a standard room, but the decor was amazing. We are big Disney fans and love a theme, and this was the best themed room I have ever stayed in. The Lego wall decor was amazing. We had a parrot, an octopus, a skull and crossbones and more! There were even pirate decorations in the bathroom. All toiletries were Lego themed, from the shampoo and soap, to the stickers on the toilet paper rolls.

We had barely dropped our bags before we discovered the in-room scavenger hunt and got to work to solve the code. The scavenger hunt was easy enough for my kids to do, but difficult enough that we miscounted, more than once. We finally cracked the code to find Lego sets and an activity book for each child. There is also a container below the TV where the kids bunk beds are located that has Legos to be used during your stay and two separate Lego mats mounted to the wall on each side of the TV. We were pleasantly surprised to find complimentary water bottles, juice boxes and hot cocoa k-cups for the room. There is a Keurig in the room, and while I am used to coffee in most hotels, these added beverages were a nice touch. Once we were settled in, we went back downstairs so the kids could play in the lobby. The centerpiece of the lobby is a giant castle that contains a play structure, slide and several “moats” filled with Legos. Off to one side is a seating area for adults and a smaller pit of Duplos. Opposite that area is the Skyline Bar and Grill. The large bar is surrounded by tables, where you can sit and enjoy drinks or a meal. We were not overly impressed with the menu, so we opted to Door Dash food from a local Chinese restaurant, Ming Town, and it was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend. It was nice to take a break from the crowds downstairs and eat in our room before returning to the lobby for the next activity.

This was the activity schedule for the day. While each activity was enjoyable enough, the delivery left much to be desired. The actors were reading from scripts propped on music stands in front of them, which took away from the magic of it all and made it feel, well, scripted. Many of the kids started to lose interest partway through, and activities seemed to drag on and on. I believe this is a new offering at the Legoland Hotel and perhaps, with some time and practice, this portion of the event will become more interesting and engaging.

The activities listed above were done at your leisure, with the exception of the Sleepover Challenge Room. That requires preregistration for a specific time slot. It’s kind of like an escape room, except you are helping a mini-fig prepare for a party. While parents are asked to stay with their children, the children are the main participants and they ask that you only help if your kids are too young to do it themselves. Our 2 year old needed some adult assistance, but for the most part his 5 year old brother could help him out when needed. There are about 10 kids in the room at a time and they work in pairs, as well as working together as a group. The entire thing takes about 20-25 minutes and was a lot of fun. Definitely do not miss it!

Unfortunately our little one started feeling ill Sunday morning, so we had to skip the AM activities and breakfast, which was included with the room. Make sure to make a breakfast reservation prior to arrival to ensure the time of your choosing. I noticed some people making the reservation at check-in but a lot of the ideal times were already taken at that point.

Overall, everything was AWESOME! (See what I did there?) We were very pleased with the Sleepover Series and both of our kids really enjoyed it. I took a quick look at room rates once the park opens in the spring, and they are astronomical. Luckily we live close enough that an overnight stay is not necessary, so we will likely never stay at the hotel “in season”. This off-season opportunity was a great way to experience the hotel with some added fun activities, save a little money versus in-season pricing, and a great way to spend a cold winter weekend. We plan to make this an annual tradition. Be sure to check out or social media for videos from the weekend!
