This was our fourth stay at Lake George Escape. We visited in September 2020 and again in mid-May 2022 when we learned about the Thousand Trails Cabin Pass. We had never stayed in any other Thousand Trails Cabin, so we bought the pass based on this park alone. We visited with our Cabin Pass in June 2022 and Memorial Day Weekend 2023. The staff continues to deliver the exceptional service we have enjoyed for the past 3 years.

We have always enjoyed these cabins, but I think this was the cleanest cabin we have ever stayed in, not just at this campground, but across all Thousand Trails properties we have stayed. The linens and towels were in excellent condition and every corner of the cabin was immaculate. We appreciate the extra work their cleaning crew puts in.

We had one issue with the remote for the TV in the living room. It would turn the TV on and off but not change channels or volume. I would just assume not have a TV on vacation, but my husband and kids do not agree. After trying to resolve the issue himself, my husband had maintenance come out to take a look. We were given a new universal remote, still in the box. After trying to sync it with the TV, my husband was at a loss and called maintenance back to the cabin. A new maintenance person came and he could not get it to work either. They brought a new TV, which they set on the dining room table. The original TV was still mounted to the wall above it. They were going to further investigate the issue once we left. We appreciate their efforts to keep my husband and boys happy, and I was happy to keep their dirty, sandy bodies out of my bed when they wanted a midday break.

This cabin is identical in layout to our Circle M cabin, but much better maintained. The cabin has a very nice porch with two heavy Adirondack chairs and a ceiling fan. The ceiling fan is a huge plus when the bugs are out, as it helps keep them out of that area. We lucked out on this trip, but the black flies and mosquitos were out in full force last June, so the fan can be extremely useful to have.

When you enter, there is a small dining table that seats four with a TV mounted above it and an L-shaped couch. The couch was comfortable and appeared to be new. We did not use it, but it has a full-size pull-out bed. There were plenty of TV channels available, with kid-friendly options like Disney and Nickelodeon.

The kitchen is equipped with everything you would need to cook in the cabin including a full-size refrigerator/freezer, a gas stove/oven, a microwave, a toaster, an electric can opener, and a coffee maker. Dishes, cups, and cutlery are included as well. There is a cupboard and drawer above the hot water heater that can be used to store food. The second cupboard next to the refrigerator contains your linens. On longer trips, I move the linens into the master bedroom and use that cabinet for additional food storage. When you travel with two young boys you bring ALL OF THE SNACKS!

Twin bed over full bed bunk in the second bedroom at Lake George Escape Campground in Warrensburg, New York

Twin over full bunk in the second bedroom.

Across from the kitchen are the two bedrooms. The first is a small room with a twin over a full bunk. There is no ladder, but you can step onto the full to pull yourself up on the twin. There is a safety bar on the twin. There are two drawers below the full bed for storage. The linens were clean and very comfortable, as were the pillows. We brought our own pillows because we are (I am) picky, but I ended up using the ones provided because they were that comfortable.

The master bedroom has a queen bed, a small TV mounted on the wall, and a small wardrobe built into the corner. There are two shelves on the bottom for storage and a rack for hanging clothes above. I use the ZipLock brand packing cubes, which slide nicely into the lower spaces. The blinds in both bedrooms let in a lot of light. We sleep with blackout curtains at home, so I brought black garbage bags and painter’s tape with me to black out the bedroom windows. I apply the bags directly to the window, secure them with a bit of tape, and then close the blinds over the top of them. This kept the rooms dark enough that we were not up with the sun each day.

The bathroom is in the back of the cabin with a tub/shower combo. The plug to the tub does not hold water, so if you have little ones that are too young for a shower, you may want to bring a small rubber stopper. There is ample counter space, as well as storage below the sink and in the medicine cabinet. There is only one towel bar mounted to the wall. I would recommend bringing over the door hooks or a drying rack if you have more than one person needing to hang bath towels. We kept the drying rack on the front porch and the ceiling fan helped things to dry quickly.

Side Note: The campground is very dusty. I am not stating this in a “they should do something about it” kind of way, we are camping after all! But for those like me, who don’t like the feeling of dust and sand on their feet, or especially don’t like it in their bed, I wanted to give a heads up. The roads are dusty, the playground sand is dusty, and even the yard of the cabin is a mix of dirt and grass. When we visited it was extremely dry so it just felt like there was dirt and sand everywhere. There is a broom and dustpan provided, but if you have the space and this is an issue for you, I suggest a Swiffer Wet Mop and/or a small stick vacuum. I found myself sweeping several times a day and wished I had remembered my Swiffer from home.

Outside is a picnic table, fire pit, and two more heavy-duty Adirondack chairs. This site (413) is one of the better spots, with a nice flat yard that is mostly grass. The layout of the deck gave us a nice nook to park our bikes and scooters where they were not very visible from the road. We would lock them up at night because I have heard stories of theft at other campgrounds, but we did feel very safe here. We brought some trucks for the kids to play in the grass and dirt, as well as some sidewalk chalk to color on the road and the large boulders on the side of the cabin.

The cabin is located just up a small hill from the main activities area, including the pool and playground. The laundry room is midway between the cabin and the pool. A bike makes the trip extremely quick and easy and there are plenty of places to park around the playground and pool.

I struggle to pick a favorite between this and Tropical Palms, both are clean, comfortable cabins located in beautifully maintained parks with excellent, attentive staff. I will link my campground review here once it is posted. We plan to return to Lake George in the fall and will post any necessary updates here.
